Brazil registers 1,322 deaths by Covid-19 and already has more than 97 thousand deaths
by Folhapress
05/08/20 22h57 - Updated: 08/05/20 22h57

Brazil recorded 1,322 new deaths by Covid-19 and 54,685 cases of the disease, this Wednesday (5). As a result, the country already has 97,418 deaths and 2,862,761 infections by Sars-CoV-2.

The data are the result of an unprecedented collaboration between Folha de S.Paulo, UOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo and G1 to gather and disseminate the numbers related to the pandemic of the new coronavirus. The information is collected directly from the state Health Departments. The balance is closed daily at 20h.

In addition to the daily data of the consortium, the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo also publishes the so-called moving average. The statistical resource seeks to give a better view of the evolution of the disease, as it attenuates isolated numbers that deviate from the pattern. The moving average is calculated by adding the result of the last seven days, dividing by seven.

According to the data collected until 8 pm, the average number of deaths in the last seven days is 1,033, which maintains a position of stability in the data, although with high numbers.

Brazil has a rate of about 46.5 deaths per 100 thousand inhabitants. The United States, which has the highest absolute number of deaths, and the United Kingdom, both ahead of Brazil in the pandemic (that is, they started to suffer from the problem before), have 48.3 and 69.7 dead for every 100 thousand inhabitants, respectively...

Since the beginning of July, Santa Catarina has registered an increase in the moving average of deaths every day and the numbers are growing very rapidly. A month ago, on July 14, the average was 16. This Friday is 49 deaths per day, tripled in an average of seven days.

In addition to SC, three states have a high number of deaths: Minas Gerais, Amazonas and Tocantins, which reached 500 deaths caused by the new coronavirus.

Twelve states and the DF are stable, that is, the daily average of deaths varied up to 15% more or less: Paran?, Rio Grande do Sul, S?o Paulo, Federal District, Goi?s, Mato Grosso do Sul, Amap?, Par? , Rond?nia, Bahia, Para?ba, Piau? and Sergipe.

From this group of states, we bring more information from two: Paran? has today passed 100 thousand cases of Covid-19 and has 2,583 registered deaths.

A warning comes from the city of S?o Paulo: the daily average of deaths in the city of S?o Paulo was almost 50 days between stability and decline. The situation has changed and, since Monday (10), the trend is upward - proof that you can't relax in care.

Ten states have a reduction in the daily average of deaths: Esp?rito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, Mato Grosso, Acre, Roraima, Alagoas, Cear?, Maranh?o, Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Norte.
