Brazil launches vaccination plan against influenza A (H1N1)
The Brazilian Health Minister Jose Gomes Temporao said Monday that 90 million Brazilians who receive the vaccine against influenza A (H1N1) in the next two months.
"It will be the largest vaccination campaign in the world. I trust that it will make a difference this year," said Monday the health minister told a seminar in Sao Paulo.
The government's goal this year is to try to reduce the incidence of disease in the country, who in 2009 left 1705 people dead, a total of 39,679 infected.
According to Gomes, the first stage, which will run between 8 and 19 March, will serve workers in the health area and the entire indigenous population.
In the second phase from 22 March to 2 April, will be vaccinated population with chronic diseases, except the elderly, including people with grade 3 obesity (morbid obesity), diabetes, liver and kidney disease.
Also at this stage will be vaccinated children between six months and two years, will receive two half doses, 21 days after the first.
The third stage will be from 5 to 23 April, and will serve saludabele population aged 20 to 29 years, while the fourth, from 24 April to 7 May, will be vaccinated persons over 60 years with chronic illnesses.
Pregnant women may receive the vaccine at any time of the season, from March 8.
Gomes Temporao also said that the ministries of Health and Science and Technology are working to develop a vaccine against dengue.
"It'sa long way because it is a complex disease, but maybe in five years and we have the vaccine," he added. (Xinhua)
