[h=1]One-year-old baby is the first dead victim of influenza A in 2017 in MS[/h] A one-year-old infant who died on Sunday (30) is the first victim to die from influenza A in Mato Grosso do Sul in 2017. The case happened in Campo Grande, at the UPA (Emergency Care Unit) of Leblon - region Southwest of the capital. The child died four days after presenting the first symptoms and the confirmation of the reason for the death came in later examinations, confirming infection by H3N2 virus, one of the causes of influenza A, next to H1N1. The death has already been reported By Sesau (Municipal Secretary of Public Health) to SES (State Secretariat of Health) and included in the epidemiological bulletin released on Thursday (4).
In the bulletin, reports of influenza A already total 209 this year, with 26 cases being confirmed, all of them H3N2. Influenza B had two records, both in Ivinhema. Regarding deaths, in 2016, nine deaths from influenza A were recorded in the first four months - the death of the 1-year-old baby was the first of 2017.
