Covid-19 in Burkina: A pharmacy closed for illegally ordering rapid coronavirus tests
Home> News> FILES> Coronavirus • LEFASO.NET • Saturday April 4, 2020 at 01h31min

The now weekly press point of the National Response Cell to Covid-19 was held this Friday, April 3, 2020. Pr Martial Ou?draogo, the coordinator of said cell, announced that on April 2, 2020, Burkina Faso recorded 14 new cases of coronavirus disease and one cure. No deaths were recorded on the same date. In total, Burkina has 302 confirmed cases including 48 cures (three people were wrongly considered cured and were deducted from the count) and sixteen deaths.

Out of the fourteen infected people, Ouagadougou, epicenter of the disease, records thirteen cases. But Professor Martial Ou?draogo assured that if the hygiene instructions are followed, the contamination could be controlled.

The Minister of Health, Pr Claudine Lougu?, present at this press briefing, announced that serious cases of Covid-19 are currently being treated with chloroquine. But she denied reports that Burkina Faso has the Covid-19 vaccine offered by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Thus, it invited the population to the continuous respect of hygiene measures.

Regarding the sealing of a pharmacy, Pr Claudine Lougu? explained that the pharmacy regulatory agency discovered that the pharmacy ordered rapid coronavirus tests, without government authorization. Thus, in compliance with the protocol, the government decided to seize the said tests and the pharmacy was temporarily closed.

As of April 6, tests of Covid-19 will also be able to be done in Ouagadougou. In Bobo-Dioulasso, the opening of other laboratories will increase the detection capabilities of Covid-19 patients.

Concerning the management of the funds mobilized for the management of the coronavirus, Pr Claudine Lougu? assured that there is a traceability of these funds and the government is ready to take stock of this management.
In the absence of a globally accepted vaccine against Covid-19, Burkina Faso has decided to use chloroquine for severe cases, but under medical assistance.
