The meeting brought together around thirty journalists from various media.
During the first six weeks of 2024, Burkina Faso recorded 1,269 suspected cases of measles with 04 deaths. These different cases were recorded in 6 health districts in the Center, North, Center-North and Boucle du Mouhoun regions. It is to provide the right information to the population on these cases of measles that the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene organized this information meeting with journalists.
According to the director of population health protection, the incident manager of the response against this disease, Dr Hamed Sidwaya Ouรฉdraogo, the increase in measles cases could be explained by a drop in vaccination coverage in localities. concerned. To break the chain of transmission of this disease, confides the incident manager, measures are being taken to strengthen disease surveillance, for case management and a vaccination campaign is planned to strengthen defense capacity children aged 9 to 59 months who are most exposed to the disease.
Also, Dr Hamed Sidwaya Ouรฉdraogo invited women and men in the media to help raise awareness among the population for the adoption of behaviors favorable to health and for their support for vaccination campaigns. This meeting allowed journalists to have elements of response to the various concerns raised.
By supporting this initiative, the Burkinabรจ Red Cross (#CRB) wants to contribute to improving the health of the population in Burkina Faso. For the health coordinator of this organization, Dr Fabrice Ouรฉdraogo, this information meeting with journalists will make it possible to convey the right information to the population. This will facilitate the work of the Burkinabรจ Red Cross, particularly in its interventions in favor of communities.
As a reminder, measles is a highly contagious disease caused by a virus, which spreads easily when an infected person breathes, coughs or sneezes into the air. It manifests itself with fever, red eyes, inflamed eyes, dry cough and a rash all over the body.
