SAN DIEGO - Eight Marine recruits have been diagnosed with meningitis.
They were all training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. No other cases have been reported at this time... It's still unknown whether they came down with bacterial or viral meningitis...

A Marine recruit with severe symptoms of meningitis is being treated at Naval Medical Center San Diego, hospital officials said.
Eight others from his platoon at the San Diego boot camp with milder symptoms such as headache and stiff necks were examined and released from the medical center early Friday after they tested negative for the disease.
As a precautionary measure, their entire company was administered ciprofloxacin antibiotics Friday...

A Marine recruit hospitalized for symptoms of meningitis was released Monday afternoon from Naval Medical Center San Diego after testing negative for the most dangerous form of the illness.
