Samohi Senior Kelly Cano Dies of "Uncertain Medical Condition"

2/11: A second Santa Monica High School student died of an unknown illness this school year, the District has announced.

"We learned this morning of the passing of Samohi student, senior Kelly Cano. According to her mother, Sandra Cano, a SMMUSD school nurse, doctors have stated that she passed away of an unknown medical condition, not thought to be related to Norovirus."...

...Samohi's student body of 3000 has suffered 2 deaths so far this academic year. 10th grader Vanai Jelks died on October 25, 2016. The Samohi Sophomore apparently fell ill after competing in a cheerleading tournament. As of today, the Los Angeles County Coroner has not determined a cause of her death, designating her cause of death as "Uncertain illness."...
