CORRECTION: A previous version of this story incorrectly described the staff member?s affiliation with students. The staff does member does work advising students.

A staff member at UC Riverside has been diagnosed with bacterial meningitis, the university said in a statement.

The employee, who was diagnosed this weekend and does work advising students, is being treated at the hospital and will not return to campus until that treatment is over...

...The precise strain of the disease hasn?t been determined, the university said...

UC Riverside officials say they have alerted about two dozen people who may have been exposed to bacterial meningitis by a staff member at the university.

The unidentified employee, who is a student adviser, is hospitalized in intensive care and is being kept in isolation, officials said...

RIVERSIDE ? A UC Riverside employee undergoing treatment for meningitis is not suffering from the worst strain of the disease, a campus official said Saturday.

?After reviewing laboratory test results and the clinical information on the employee, the County of Riverside Department of Public Health has determined that the employee does not have the most serious form of bacterial meningitis,? said campus spokeswoman Kris Lovekin...
