A Carmel Valley high school student potentially exposed others to whooping cough, County Health and Human Services Agency officials said today.

The 17-year-old, who was up-to-date with immunizations, attends the San Diego Jewish Academy. The County reported eight cases of whooping cough, also known as pertussis, to date for 2012. The case total remained at 436 for 2011...

REGION: North County student diagnosed with whooping cough, county says

A 7-year-old North County child ---- whose immunizations were up to date ---- was diagnosed recently with pertussis, also known as whooping cough, County Health and Human Services Agency officials said Thursday.

The child attends the Cambridge School, a private school in Rancho Penasquitos, and potentially exposed others to the contagious disease, county spokeswoman Yvette Urrea Moe said.

Pertussis Immunizations Protect Infants

June 1, 2012 (San Diego) -- Four new cases of whooping cough were reported at local schools boosting the region?s total to 42 cases for the year so far, County Health and Human Services Agency officials reported yesterday.

In all four cases, the children were up-to-date on pertussis immunizations. This week?s new pertussis cases are:

A 5-month-old who was up-to-date on immunizations and attends Charley Brown Children?s Center preschool in La Mesa.
A 4-year-old who was up-to-date on immunizations and attends Del Dios Head Start in Escondido.
A 6-year-old who was up-to-date on immunizations and attends Juniper Elementary School in the Escondido Union School District

San Diego County Health and Human Services reported on Friday that a high school student at Canyon Crest Academy and an elementary student at Sage Canyon elementary school have pertussis, also known as whooping cough.

San Diego Whooping Cough Cases Decline Significantly
California saw 7,800 confirmed cases and the deaths of 10 infants because of pertussis in 2010

Pertussis cases in San Diego County have decreased nearly 90 percent since the 2010 epidemic and roughly 25 percent since last year, according to the San Diego County Health and Human Service Agency.

The county has seen only 130 cases of whooping cough so far this year ? whereas 2010 had nearly 1,180 reported patients and 400 people were diagnosed in 2011...
