Marin whooping cough cases spike in April and May; school-age children affected most

Whooping cough cases in Marin County this year are on the rise, hitting their highest number since 2010 when California suffered its worst whooping cough outbreak in more than 60 years.
All but one of the 37 whooping cough cases that Marin has seen this year occurred in April and May. In all those cases, the individuals are recovering or have recovered, and no hospitalizations or deaths have been reported. In 2010, Marin had the highest rate of whooping cough, also known as pertussis, in the state with 351 cases...

SANTA CRUZ -- Santa Cruz County is seeing a jump in whooping cough, part of a statewide trend that has local health officials asking parents and doctors to be on the lookout for signs of the potentially fatal disease.
