Shasta Co. sees first measles case in 17 years

REDDING, Calif. -

Shasta County health officials are warning the public of the first confirmed case of measles in the county in at least 17 years. They are warning people who may have come in contact with the infected person to take precautions.

So far this year there have been 52 cases of measles in California. Last year during the same period there were just four.

Public health said anyone at the Olive Garden restaurant in Redding last Tuesday, April 1, between the hours of 5 and 6:30 p.m. should double check to make sure they received two doses of the measles vaccine,
which is usually given in the measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine...

The San Joaquin County health department says they have their first reported case of measles this year.

A young child has the highly contagious virus, and was probably exposed by someone who traveled overseas...

...Fifty-eight cases of measles have been reported statewide this year.

One Humboldt County man tests positive for measles

Press release from the Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services:

Officials from the Department of Health & Human Services announced today that a man admitted to a local hospital earlier this week has tested positive for measles.

The man, whose name and other identifying information will not be released, had recently traveled overseas, where he is believed to have contracted the illness. He was met at San Francisco International Airport by his family, driven to their Humboldt County home and then taken the next day to St. Joseph Hospital, where all appropriate precautions were taken to avoid additional infections.

The DHHS Public Health Laboratory confirmed the test results Monday night...
