As many as 1,500 BART riders may have been exposed to measles when an infected San Mateo County resident rode BART from Millbrae to San Francisco's Civic Center station last week, BART and San Mateo County health officials said Thursday.

The patient boarded a Richmond-bound train at Millbrae at about 4:30 p.m. last Friday and exited at the Civic Center station at about 5 p.m., according to county health officials...

California Measles Surveillance Update
February 27, 2015

...Since December, 2014, there have been 130 confirmed measles cases reported in California residents. Of these:

o 40 cases visited Disneyland during December 17th-20th, 2014 where they are presumedto have been exposed to measles
o 30 are household or close contacts to a confirmed case
o 10 were exposed in a community setting (e.g., emergency room) where a confirmed
case was known to be present
o 47 have unknown exposure source but are presumed to be linked to the outbreak based on a combination of descriptive epidemiology or strain type
o 3 cases are known to have a different genotype from the outbreak strain

Among measles cases for whom we have vaccination documentation, 55 were unvaccinated and 17 had 1 or more doses of MMR vaccine...

CHILD IN MERCED COUNTY TESTS POSITIVE FOR MEASLES

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) --
The Merced County Department of Public Health has confirmed that a child in Merced County has measles.

The health department said the child has since recovered and the department is working with the family to contact people who may have been exposed to the child. The source of the child's case has not been determined.

They also said additional reports of measles cases in the county are being investigated.

City announces possible measles exposure at Berkeley libraries

Health officials confirmed Friday that a Contra Costa County resident visiting Berkeley libraries may have had the measles virus.

The adult, who has not been confirmed to have measles, visited Berkeley?s Central Branch Library on the afternoon of Feb. 27 and was at the West Branch Library throughout the day Feb. 27 and Feb. 28, according to a news release.

The Berkeley public health division is working with the libraries to notify and evaluate those who might have been exposed. Library patrons who visited during those dates should monitor themselves for symptoms until March 21, according to the release...

Disneyland measles outbreak is over, California officials say

The measles outbreak that began at Disneyland over the winter holidays is over, California health officials said Friday.

A total of 131 people were infected with the measles in California as well as at least 25 others who resided in seven other states, Canada and Mexico. There have been no new measles cases related to the outbreak that began at Disneyland in 42 days.

It can take 21 days for a person infected with measles to show signs of illness. An outbreak can be declared over if no new illnesses are reported for 42 days...

Alert: UC Berkeley student with measles rode public transportation

Berkeley officials have put out an alert that a UC Berkeley student diagnosed with measles rode public transportation and was active in the community before he was put in isolation.

The student, who was not identified, was infectious from Aug. 24 to Aug. 29., according to a city press release. On Monday Aug. 24 he took the AC Transit line 25 around 3:30 p.m. and returned on the same line around 5:30 p.m. He also spent time in his dorm and around the UC campus before his tell-tale rash developed...
