Marin County man reportedly succumbs to swine flu in Canada
The Marin IJ is reporting a Mill Valley resident has succumbed to swine flu. Robert Derzon, became ill while on a trip to the East Coast in early June. He died on June 17 in Ontario, Canada.
His son reportedly told officials here that his 78 year-old father was admitted to the hospital and he was tested for swine flu, but the initial test came back negative. He was then re-tested, and a more definitive test came back positive for the H1N1 virus. He died shortly after diagnosis.

The Marin county public health director, Dr. Fred Schwartz, believes Derzon caught the virus while on the East coast, after leaving Marin. Prior to Derzon, four people with the virus, had been hospitalized in Marin and all have since recovered. Most recently, a group of students from Novato were quarantined for several days in Quito, Ecuador after one student became ill and subsequently tested positive for the virus.
