Cases of pneumonia and diarrheal diseases increased due to effects of rainfall

The latest epidemiological report on the Regional Health Management revealed that cases of diarrhea and pneumonia in January and February of this year increased compared to 2011.
The head of epidemiology at the Regional Health Management, Patricia Polanco, reported that diarrheal infections increased by 10.7%, while victims of pneumonia 19.4% exceeded the last year.
Polanco said that so far are 87 cases of pneumonia (11 in children under 5 years and 76 older). Three people died of COPD in Hunter, Puno and Santa Rita de Siguas. All died in the hospital Honorio Delgado Espinoza.
As for diarrhea statistics indicate that 967 cases are in children under five years and 170 in adults. These infections took a life in El Pedregal.
In turn, the regional manager of Health, Hector Flores Hinojosa said besides the cold, rain and snow in the south, "we must add the lack of potable water and sewer collapsed, causing increase of insects and bacteria. This increases the vulnerability of acquiring a disease, "he said.
