Interim Human Avian influenza A(H5N1) by Cambodian Provinces and Outcome (n=47) 33 deaths (CFR=70.21%)
Throughout 2013 regional distribution appears now to be slowing engulfing the provincial villages around the Tonle Sap Biosphere Reserve ! We are seeing a farther reaching grip from the Northern and Southern provinces to new sporadic human cases for the first time in Battambang, Kampong Thom, Pursat and now Pailin. (Battambang surrounds Pailin)

** 1 pending outcome in critical condition as of 14-Nov-13 in Samrong Tang, Kampong Speu [3M] at Kantha Bopha Hospital, Phnom Penh
From January to April during the preparation of the Khmer New Year festival celebrations in Cambodia! The increase of interprovincial transportation of poultry in Cambodia and also from adjacent countries like Vietnam, Thailand increases! Notably that 78% of confirmed cases and 74% of confirmed deaths occurred during this period from 2005-2012 however now after the unprecedented surge in sporadic H5N1 cases in Cambodia 2013 the seasonal distributions and percentages are starting to change.

As you can see day 4-8 24/33 (72%) fatal cases occurred.
this increases from day 4-12 where 28/33 (84.85%) fatal cases occurred!
**does not include 3M pending outcome in critical condition who was admitted within 3 days of onset and received Oseltamivir on day 4.
Information is known publically for 19 cases who received Oseltamivir but only 16 with commencement date. Only 2/16 cases had Oseltamivir within 4 days and none within 36hrs!

19. Case 47 11 days (Fatal)
Time to antiviral average (med) was 8 days for all cases, 7.5 for fatal and recovered cases known publically!
No one received antiviral within 36hrs but also interesting enough all received Oseltamivir after admission and none received Oseltamivir prophylactically when they first sought treatment in their villages or communes respectively!
As usual antiviral should be given ideally within 24-36hrs after onset but as you can see poverty stricken rural Cambodia has it?s challenges.

RRT and MAFF revealed chickens and ducks had been sick and/or dead for approximately three weeks prior to the boy?s onset of illness. The boy helped carry dead chickens for his mother who was preparing a meal from the family. The mother regularly purchased sick and dead chickens from a local poultry farm.

RRT and MAFF revealed that the case had direct contact with sick and dead poultry one week prior to illness onset. During the investigation multiple influenza like illness cases were detected in the village A(H1N1), Battambang surrounds Pailin!

From January to April during the preparation of the Khmer New Year festival celebrations in Cambodia! The increase of interprovincial transportation of poultry in Cambodia and also from adjacent countries like Vietnam, Thailand increases! Notably that 78% of confirmed cases and 74% of confirmed deaths occurred during this period from 2005-2012 however now after the unprecedented surge in sporadic H5N1 cases in Cambodia 2013 the seasonal distributions and percentages are starting to change.

this increases from day 4-12 where 28/33 (84.85%) fatal cases occurred!
