China confirms H5N1 bird flu outbreak in Xinjiang

BEIJING, July 2 (Xinhua) -- China's northwestern Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region has reported an outbreak of H5N1 in poultry, the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) announced Monday.

Mainland Chinese Ministry of Agriculture 2 Sunday evening said that Xinjiang H outbreak 5 N 1 strain of bird flu epidemic, the local departments had been 撲 killed more than 150,000 chickens.

The Public Health Ministry yesterday instructed health officials nationwide to keep an eye out for birdflu infections among humans.


This move follows a report that more than 150,000 chickens in China's northwestern region of Xinjiang were culled due to an outbreak of bird flu.
