Experts from the Three Gorges Group Watershed Operation Management Center said

In addition to the currently open ports through the dam it has a spillway with a 115m[SUP]3[/SUP]sec[SUP]-1[/SUP] capacity so the dam can relieve pressure if it needs to, but at the expense of down stream flooding. The only real dangers to the dam itself are the collapse of upstream dams that could cause a domino effect and major surge or if short cuts were taken in the construction leading to a divergence of actual and design specification.

Beijing issued a blue warning of heavy rain
