Autumn weather is dry

The temperature difference between day and night is widening.

Affected by seasonal climate

Recent respiratory and various allergic diseases

Peak of the outbreak

Reporters learned from the First People's Hospital of Jiashan County that the number of patients with asthma, allergic rhinitis, and seasonal cough seen in the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and the Department of Otolaryngology has increased significantly.

You Huimin, director of the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine at the First People's Hospital of Jiashan County, explained that early autumn is a typical peak season for respiratory allergies. During this period, not only does the number of asthma patients visiting the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine increase significantly, but the number of allergic rhinitis patients in the Department of Otolaryngology also increases simultaneously, highlighting the prominent seasonal characteristics of the disease.

The data from the First People's Hospital of Jiashan County shows that this autumn's allergy symptoms are typical and diverse: many residents experience recurring chronic dry coughs, with more pronounced coughing at night; some residents without a history of respiratory illness have recently experienced sudden chest tightness, shortness of breath, and difficulty breathing, sometimes to the point of being unable to lie flat and rest properly at night. In addition to respiratory symptoms , systemic allergic are also common, all typical symptoms of autumn allergic diseases.

Yu Huimin stated that the dry air and frequent alternation of cold and warm air in autumn reduce the resistance of the human respiratory mucosa, making it more sensitive to external stimuli, which is the main cause of various allergy problems.

In response to the current high incidence of autumn allergies, You Huimin suggests that everyone: pay attention to temperature changes, add clothing in time to keep warm, and resist the stimulation caused by the temperature difference between day and night; drink plenty of warm water to keep the respiratory mucosa moist and reduce the probability of allergy attacks; and strictly avoid foods that you know you are allergic to in order to reduce the risk of allergic reactions.

In addition, because older adults have relatively slower bodily sensations, they are more likely to overlook the initial symptoms of allergies. You Huimin suggests that older adults minimize visits to crowded places, maintain good ventilation in their homes and offices to improve indoor air quality, and scientifically prevent autumn allergic diseases to smoothly navigate the peak season for allergies.
