Yunyang: Counter-terr orism and riot control drills conducted, police and medical personnel work together in a "race against time" scenario.
September 10, 2026, 20:47Recently, in the lobby of Yunyang County People's Hospital, two "criminals" suddenly pulled out long knives from their bags and indiscriminately slashed at the surrounding crowd. A middle-aged man was stabbed in the leg and fell to the ground, where he was dragged behind a pillar and held hostage. This dramatic scene was part of the 2026 anti-terrorism and anti-riot emergency drill jointly conducted by the Yunyang County Public Security Bureau and the County People's Hospital.
The drill simulated two men following patients, forcibly bypassing security checks to enter the outpatient hall, stabbing people, and taking hostages. Upon discovering this, the hospital's resident police officers immediately activated the emergency alarm, organized a minimum emergency response unit, and rushed to the scene with riot shields and steel forks to confront the assailants, while simultaneously guiding the public to evacuate via safe passageways.
Upon receiving the report, the Qinglong Police Station and the SWAT team "1, 3, 5" quickly arrived at the scene and established a cordon. SWAT snipers occupied high ground to lock onto the target, while the assault team concealed themselves and formed an encirclement. Negotiation experts engaged in psychological maneuvering with the perpetrator. Under the combined tactical pressure from multiple police units, the perpetrator finally laid down his weapon and was subdued by the assault team. The hostage was immediately placed on a stretcher, where emergency room medical staff provided first aid and bandaged the wound before transporting him to the operating room. Criminal investigation officers simultaneously conducted a scene investigation and secured physical evidence.
"Through practical training, the coordination and cooperation capabilities of our security team and clinical departments have been significantly improved," said Li Shu, vice president of Yunyang County People's Hospital. He added that the drills focused on testing key aspects such as alarm response, personnel evacuation, police-medical joint arrest, and medical rescue, ensuring a rapid, close, and effective response in the event of an emergency, which is crucial for the hospital's safety and security.
Xiang Guifang, deputy captain of the Public Security Brigade of Yunyang County Public Security Bureau, said that the drill achieved its intended purpose, with all departments responding quickly, cooperating seamlessly, and handling the situation in a standardized manner.
