Colombian health authorities on Tuesday announced that the death toll of the AH1N swine flu virus has risen to 190 with seven deaths registered in the last week.

The Ministry for Social Protection issued a statement declaring that there have now been "3,288 confirmed cases of the virus which include the deaths of 190 people across 196 Colombian municipalities," reported newspaper El Espectador.

The ministry also reported that on Tuesday they launched another stage in the campaign to mitigate the impact of AH1N1 in Colombia by urging the use of face masks among those with flu symptoms.

The first case of the AH1N1 virus in Colombia was registered on May 3 and the first death occurred on June 4, of a woman aged 23, in the country's capital, Bogota.

Bogot?, 29 dic (EFE) .- The death toll in Colombia for the influenza A virus rose to 196 with the deaths of six people in the last week, said the Ministry of Social Protection.

To date, detailed in a report that portfolio, "have been reported 3405 cases including 196 deaths.

According to the director of the National Institute of Health (NIH), Juan Gonzalo Lopez, since he began circulating H1N1 pandemic virus in the country last May, has mainly affected the female population and youth and is circulating in 31 of the 32 departments of Colombia.

"In terms of mortality 58 per cent of deaths has focused on women, and also those in their second or third quarter as pregnant women are 12 per cent of deaths," he noted Lopez.

The official explained that pregnant women are a risk group to which we must continue paying attention to avoid further impact of the virus.

Similarly, the Ministry of Social Welfare is making efforts to bring all the vaccine against the virus as soon as possible to Colombia and recalled that priority will be high-risk groups such as pregnant women, chronically ill and health workers .

The first patient with confirmed influenza A in Colombia was recorded on 3 May and the first death on June 4.

01 of February 2010, 21:27Bogota, Feb 1 (Prensa Latina) 205 reached the number killed in Colombia for influenza A (H1N1), mainly from Bogota, Antioquia, Cundinamarca and Valle del Cauca, said the Ministry of Social Protection.

According to the source, to date the country reported 152 thousand in 560 cases of H1N1 pandemic virus, including deaths, while its circulation reaches 31 departments of the 32 that make up the country, four districts and 218 municipalities.

Of these cases, 139 thousand 430 are classified as suspects, two thousand 30 as probable and three thousand 572 confirmed, while seven thousand 528 were excluded by laboratory or not meet the definition of the disease.

The ministry also reported that in the months of August and September 2009 were presented the highest peaks of confirmed cases across the path of the pandemic.

He also said that despite the reported figures, the intensity of the virus dropped in recent months.

According to the authority, in the prevalence by age group shows that the highest rates occur in children under five years, followed by the group of young people between 25 and 29 years.
