MANILA, Philippines ? The committee on health of the House of Representatives will resume on Monday its hearing on the Influenza A(H1N1) virus amid continuing concern over the deadly flu that now afflicts some 1,700 Filipinos.
The number of cases has made the Philippines the eighth country in the world with the most number of cases, the World Health Organization had said.
South Cotabato Representative Arthur Pingoy, chairman of the committee, said Secretary Francisco Duque III is expected to attend the hearing to give an overall view of the H1N1 virus situation in the country and how the health care system is responding to it.
He said he would also seek explanation from Duque why it did not immediately disclose that the first H1N1-related fatality, a 49-year-old female, came from the chamber.
Pingoy said he would meet with Duque Monday morning before the hearing scheduled at 1:30 p.m.
The Department of Health earlier announced a shift in strategy two weeks ago from containment to treatment of the victims. Duque also said that in some cases, paracetamol would be enough to cure some symptoms of the flu.
