Corpus Christi woman dies from H1N1 complications

CORPUS CHRISTI ? A 10th Nueces County resident died Saturday morning from complications of H1N1, or swine flu, Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District confirmed.
A Corpus Christi woman between 60 and 70 years old died at a hospital. She had been hospitalized since October, under the care of a private physician, and did suffer from other underlying medical conditions.
?There were cardiovascular-related issues,? said Dr. William Burgin, health authority for the district, which will not release or confirm additional identifying information. ?I?m not at liberty to be more specific.?
Nueces County?s first confirmed death related to H1N1 was in May.
The woman?s death came four days after a 41-year-old San Patricio County man died from complications related to H1N1. He was considered obese, officials said, and had been admitted to a hospital Nov. 21 and released Nov. 25, He was readmitted Dec. 1 in serious condition.
San Patricio County has reported three deaths related to H1N1. Jim Wells County has reported one.
Burgin advises people to protect themselves against the H1N1 virus by getting the vaccine and following everyday hygiene practices.
