Could being a smoker be an underlying condition?

If smoking is an underlying condition I've not seen hardly any mention of it,
kind of odd; with H1N1 being a respiratory disease I would think it would have come up.
I'm relatively new to this great site and if it was covered before I apologize

Long time smokers all have chronic lung disease, usually chronic bronchitis. Most of the reports do list chronic lung disease as a risk factor. I have also seen a few reports that listed smoking as a risk factor, as well. Welcome aboard.
