Critical constraint to information on H1N1 virus
Brazil, together with South Africa, India and Russia, has criticized the sharing of information about the Influenza virus H1N1 flu during the World Health Assembly in Switzerland on Wednesday. According to the Ministry of Health, developed countries that have developed technology and vaccines, antiviral drugs and diagnostic kits have restricted the access of "disadvantaged" to essential information.
Delivered to the World Health Organization (WHO)was a letter that points out the main flaws of the system to access information of a pandemic virus. They also sought to expand the capacity to produce vaccines and drugs against the virus, with the transfer of technology and participation in scientific research findings.
The ministry said that few international laboratories produce vaccines and, therefore, it is necessary for developed countries and pharmaceutical companies to share information with developing countries that actively participated in the research of collecting and decoding the virus last year.
The World Health Assembly ends on Friday with the release of the resolutions. Brazil expects to exert political pressure on WHO member countries in possession of technology. According to the ministry for more than the current system is flawed, Brazil has succeeded in reducing the impacts of the pandemic virus through vaccination campaign, which aims to reach 90 million people.
