Bird flu confirmed in Istria, one case has occurred
STRICT MEASURES FOR POULTRY AND BIRD OWNERS
At the beginning of January 2022, new cases of highly pathogenic H5N1 subtype in four red-billed swans from Zagreb (Lake Siromaja), Istria County (Novigrad, Mirna estuary) and Vukovar-Srijem County (Spačva and Bosuta rivers) were confirmed. During December 2021, in the area of Osijek-Baranja County, cases of VPIP subtype H5N1 in three gray herons at two locations in the Kopački Rit Nature Park were confirmed.
So far, in the period from November 2021 to January 2022, VPIP has been confirmed on one farm with domestic poultry (Sisak-Moslavina County) and in a total of 16 wild birds - Sisak-Moslavina County - 7 wild birds, Međimurje County - 1 wild bird , Split-Dalmatia - 1 wild bird, Osijek-Baranja County - 3 wild birds, Zagreb County - 1 wild bird, Istria County - 1 wild bird, Vukovar-Srijem County - 2 wild birds).
We would like to remind you that due to the occurrence of highly pathogenic avian influenza in the Republic of Croatia, strict preventive measures have been in force since 5 December 2021. Measures prescribed for the whole country refer to the mandatory implementation of hygienic and biosecurity measures in poultry farming. It is mandatory to keep all poultry and birds in captivity in closed housing to prevent any contact with wild birds. Waterfowl (ducks and geese) must be kept separate from other poultry.
For the purpose of early detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza, it is extremely important to immediately report to the competent veterinary organization any change in the health and behavior of poultry, reduction of production, reduction of food and / or water intake and death of poultry and captive birds.
The Ministry of Agriculture hereby appeals to the responsible behavior of all poultry and poultry owners in captivity with a request to comply with the provisions of the Order to prevent further disease in domestic poultry farming and the spread of this disease and thus reduce possible large losses in poultry and economy in general.
The Veterinary and Food Safety Administration has provided 24-hour standby on the phone number 099 / 4392-507, where citizens can report any increased deaths or signs of disease in wild birds.
