93 new swine flu cases in Delhi

NEW DELHI: The Capital reported 93 more positive cases of swine flu on Sunday. With this, a total of 1,834 people have tested positive for swine flu in Delhi so far.
State Health Minister Kiran Walia said the Health Department was trying to ensure that it was able to net and treat all cases of swine flu.

Ninety per cent of the patients who have reported with swine flu at the various designated hospitals have been successfully treated and discharged, she added.

New Delhi, Sept 23 (PTI) As swine flu cases continue to rise in the city, 97 people, including 64 children, tested positive for the viral infection today.

A total of 2,162 swine flu cases have been reported here till date of which 1,082 are children.

"97 positive H1N1 cases were identified today. With this, the total number of positive swine flu cases admitted till date in all designated hospitals is 2,162," Delhi health minister Kiran Walia said.

Of these 97 positive cases of H1N1 influenza, 64 samples were that of children. Almost 90 per cent of the patients have been treated and discharged or advised home quarantine, Walia said.

She said the situation is under control and the government is doing its best efforts in providing treatment to H1N1 patients in government hospitals.

New Delhi, Sept 24 (PTI) As many as 113 swab samples tested positive for swine flu virus today taking the total cases here to 2,275 which include 1,147 children.

"113 positive H1N1 cases were identified today. A total of 2,275 cases positive for swine flu have surfaced in the city till date of which more than 90 per cent patients have been treated and discharged," Delhi health minister, Kiran Walia said.

She said, "Of these 2,275 samples 1,147 were of children alone. Of the 113 cases reported positive today, 65 cases are of children."

Walia further said the situation is under control and the government is doing its best efforts in providing treatment to H1N1 patients in government hospitals. She advised people to visit doctor at the earliest if any symptom of swine flu appears.

118 more test positive for swine flu in Delhi

NEW DELHI: As many as 118 people including 68 children tested positive for swine flu in the city on Friday taking the total cases here to 2,393.


"Till date 2,393 samples have tested positive for swine flu virus out of which more than 90% patients have been treated and discharged. Of these 1,215 were of children alone," Delhi health minister, Kiran Walia said.

Advising people to visit a doctor at the earliest if any symptom of swine flu appears, Walia said the government is doing its best in giving treatment to H1N1 virus infected patients and gave assurance that the situation is under control.

Till date, samples from 38,407 persons have been tested for Influenza A H1N1 (swine flu) in government laboratories and a few private laboratories across the country.

A total of 35,988 passengers have been screened at 22 airports with 83 counters manned by 225 doctors and 172 paramedics.

43 positive swine flu cases in the city on Tuesday, most are kids

NEW DELHI: A total of 43 people, 26 of them children, tested positive for swine flu virus here on Tuesday, taking the total number of clinically
confirmed H1N1 swine flu cases in the city to the 2963 mark.

"A total of 43 positive cases of H1N1 influenza have been identified today. Of these, 26 samples were of children alone," Kiran Walia, Delhi Health Minister said.

Walia said that till date 2963 cases have tested positive for swine flu virus. More than 90 per cent patients have been successfully treated and discharged.

"Till date 1561 children have been infected by H1N1 virus," she said.

She said the situation is under control and the government is doing its best in providing treatment to H1N1 patients in government hospitals.

35 new flu cases in Delhi, total almost 3000

New Delhi, Oct 7(PTI) Number of positive swine flu cases in the national capital reached 2,998 after 35 people including 13 children tested positive for the virus here today.

"A total of 2,998 cases have tested positive for swine flu virus till date. Out of this more than 90 per cent patients have been treated and discharged," Kiran Walia, Delhi Health minister said.

Walia said that till date 1,574 children have tested positive for the H1N1 virus.

So far 14 persons have succumbed to the pandemic in Delhi.

New Delhi, Nov 19 (IANS) With the winter chill now in the air, swine flu cases in the national capital have recorded a sudden jump in the past two days. Doctors Thursday warned that H1N1 infections could see a rise as the virus spreads faster during winter.

The capital Wednesday reported 63 swine cases while on Tuesday 62 people reported positive for H1N1. This is a sharp increase from the 16 and 23 cases reported Monday and Sunday, respectively.

'The temperature has dipped in the northern parts of the country in the past few days. With the onset of winter, swine flu cases will increase but as of now the infection is mild and the morbidity is not much,' Randeep Guleria, head of medicine at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), told IANS.


Guleria said people need to be more vigilant and take precautions during the winter.


'People should visit a designated health facility if they notice flu-like symptoms. Those in the target group like the elderly, children, pregnant women, heart and diabetic patients should take extra care during the winter,' said Guleria.


S. Chatterjee, senior consultant internal medicine at the Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, said people should avoid crowded places and take necessary precautions while stepping out.


'Cover your face while sneezing and wash hands after regular interval - these are a must to prevent the spread of the H1N1 infection,' said Chatterjee.


The Delhi government said necessary measures are in place to check the increase of swine flu cases.


'The situation is under control and the government is doing its best to provide treatment to H1N1 patients in government hospitals. People should visit a doctor at the earliest on noticing symptoms of swine flu,' said Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia.


Delhi with 3,900 swine flu cases tops the list of people affected with H1N1 in the country. India has so far reported 534 swine flu deaths.

54 more cases of swine flu reported in city

New Delhi, Nov 24 (PTI) With rise in the humidity level in the atmosphere, swine flu cases continued to be reported in the national capital as 54 people, including 36 children, tested positive for the virus today.

"Swab samples of 54 people including 36 children tested positive for swine flu. With this, the total number of positive cases of H1N1 virus in the city mounted to 4,419. Of these 2,471 samples were of children alone," Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia said.

"More than 90 per cent of the patients had been successfully treated and discharged," she said.

"Swine flu cases are being reported here because of the humidity in the air. The virus spreads due to moisture in the air," a WHO official said.

Till date, a total of 19 deaths have been reported due to the H1N1 influenza.

So far, 21 people have died due to the pandemic virus in the city, she said.

Walia, however, said the situation is under control and the government is doing its best in providing treatment to H1N1 patients in government hospitals. According to the WHO, India continues to report maximum number of cases of swine flu in the south east Asian region.

4 schools shut, 176 new H1N1 flu cases in city

Dec. 3: The city on Thursday recorded 176 fresh cases of H1N1 flu, the highest for a day since the outbreak of the disease, leading to speculation that the city was witnessing the second wave of the disease. However, the state health ministry said that there was nothing to panic. Senior doctors also said that it was difficult to say whether it was the second wave. Meanwhile, at least four schools decided to close down for the weekend.

Chief nodal officer for H1N1, Dr Anjan Prakash, said that 176 fresh cases were reported in the city out of which 120 are children. The cumulative number has reached 5,417.
DPS Mathura Road, Frank Anthony and two other schools in the east Delhi closed till the next week. "We have shut down the primary school for the safety of the students in the wake of H1N1 flu. We got reports of a few students having caught H1N1. We do not want it to spread so we are closing the school," a DPS Mathura Road school official said.

"It is difficult to say that it is a second wave but it was always predicted that in winters there would be a spurt in H1N1 cases. There is no reason to panic, but people should not let up on precautions," said Dr N.K. Chaturvedi, medical superintendent of Ram Manohar Lohia hospital, which is the nodal hospital for H1N1.

Delhi health minister Kiran Walia said the situation was under control. "The number of cases is rising but the situation is under control," said Prof. Walia. She has directed the screening centres to immediately provide the help to those in need. She said that centres should write to the health ministry whenever they feel medicines or equipment crunch for screening.

Meanwhile, patients faced lot of problems at Patel Chest Hospital to avail the H1N1 screening facility. A number of them became restive and shouted at the authorities when they were forced to wait for a long time. The number of affected with the virus in Delhi is highest in the country. The city has reported 25 H1N1 deaths.

The state government has decided to launch fresh awareness campaign in the capital in view of the rising number of cases.

Two swine flu deaths take Delhi's toll to 28

Two women died of swine flu in city hospitals Friday, taking the toll due to influenza A (H1N1) in the national capital to 28, a health department official said.

Meanwhile, Delhi reported 186 cases of swine flu -- the highest for a single day - taking the number of people affected with the virus to 5,603. Delhi Thursday reported 176 cases of swine flu.

'Two deaths were reported today (Friady). A 40-year-old woman, who was a resident of Guru Ramdas Nagar, died in Lok Nayak Jai Prakash hospital,' Anjana Prakash, state's assistant nodal officer for swine flu cases, told IANS.

'Another woman died in Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. She was 60-year-old and was a resident of Janakpuri. Both did not have any travel history. Both of them came late to the hospital and were already suffering from severe respiratory problems,' she added.

The number of people affected with the virus in Delhi is highest in the country.

The state government has decided to launch fresh awareness campaign in the capital in view of the rising number of cases.

With the onset of winter, the second wave of the flu is expected to hit many more people.

181 test positive for swine flu in Delhi

New Delhi, Dec 8 (PTI) Swine flu cases in the city rose to 6,352 after 181 positive cases were reported today.

"Of the total 181 positive cases, 106 were of children alone. With this, the total number of swine flu cases reported till date is 6,352 of which 3,723 cases are that of children," Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia said.So far, 34 people have died due to the pandemic virus in the city, she said.

Walia, however, said the situation is under control and the government is doing its best in providing treatment to H1N1 patients in government hospitals.

India has reported the maximum number of swine flu cases in the south east Asian region, WHO has said.

Inadequate arrangement for flu patients in Delhi: BJP

New Delhi, Dec 10 (PTI) The BJP today accused the Delhi Government of not making adequate arrangements to provide proper treatment to swine flu affected people, saying patients are struggling to get proper care in the city hospitals.

Raising the issue in the assembly, senior BJP leader V K Malhotra said patients have to wait for long hours to get treatment in government hospitals as number of doctors was not enough in these health care centres.

"Forty people have already died of swine flu in the city.

Yesterday 246 people were tested positive for the disease. The Government arrangement is totally inadequate," Malhotra said.

The Leader of Opposition demanded better infrastructure in all the designated hospitals to offer treatment for swine flu affected people.

Health Minister Kiran Walia, however, rejected the criticism, saying even World Economic Forum had praised Delhi Government for effectively dealing with the problem.

Delhi accounted for 50.7 per cent of India?s confirmed H1N1 cases over the past week, shows Union health ministry data.

Of the 2,400 H1N1 cases reported in India since between December 3 and December 10, 1,217 were in Delhi.

H1N1 infected 21,929 people and caused 670 deaths across the country till December 10.

?Swine flu is rampant in Delhi and accounts for 20 per cent of cases among children in my clinic,? said Dr Subhash Arya, chairman, Department of Paedi-atrics and Adolescent Medicine at BLK Memorial Hospital at Pusa Road in Central Delhi.

?The slight spurt in cases was expected in winter as the weather is conducive to the spread of viral infection,? said Vineet Chawdhry, joint secretary, ministry of health. ?The increase is anyway localised to Delhi, so we can hardly say the ?second wave? of the epidemic has hit India.?

?The spurt was expected. It is nothing to worry about,? said Dr V.M. Katoch, director-general of Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

He cited Pune, where the epidemic has slowed down since it peaked in August. ?ICMR?s reports of the progression dynamics of H1N1 in Pune shows about 40 per cent people have developed antibodies against H1N1, which has slowed down the spread,? said Dr Katoch.

109 kids among 190 new swine flu cases

New Delhi: The Capital on Saturday recorded 190 new cases of swine flu, of which 109 were children, health officials said.

?Delhi recorded 190 new cases of swine flu Saturday. Of this, 109 were children. The cumulative number of cases now stands at 7,209,? State assistant nodal officer for swine flu Anjana Prakash said.

?Of the total number of people detected with influenza A (H1N1) in the Capital till now, 4,244 are children,? she added.

Thirty-nine 39 deaths have been reported until now.
