In a follow-up to a report last year of a measles outbreak in Katanga, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), officials with M?decins Sans Fronti?res (MSF) say this years outbreak is the worst since 2011.

?Measles is practically endemic in Katanga. A significant increase in cases was observed at the beginning of March 2015, mainly in the Malemba Nkulu health zone?, according to Dr Louis Albert Massing, MSF?s medical coordinator in DRC...

It's the worst measles outbreak in the region since 2010-2011

A measles outbreak in a southeast province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has killed more than 300 people and infected at least 20,000, according to a preliminary United Nations report.

The outbreak is still expanding, according to the draft report, and hundreds more in remote areas may have died without their deaths being recorded...

A measles outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo's copper-mining southeast has killed 428 people and infected about 30,000 since the start of the year, the United Nations said.

More than 100 deaths and 10,000 additional cases have been recorded since mid-August, when the United Nations committed $2.4 million to fight the outbreak in the former province of
Katanga, which was recently divided into four.
