Authorities have decreed a preventive alert in
the capital and in 4 departments [state of
province equivalents - Mod.TY] due to the
increase in dengue cases and announced that
campaigns to eradicate the mosquito vector of the
disease [virus] would be launched immediately.
This state of alert, which activates the entire
emergency system of Public Health will be applied
in the capital, San Vicente and La Paz, in the
central region of the country, La Libertad, in
the south and Santa Ana, and in the east of the
country. Public Health statistics indicate that
72 percent of the [dengue] patients [are found in
these areas].
Although [fatal] victims have not been recorded,
just between 9 and 19 Jun [2007] 134 dengue cases
have been confirmed, among whom 2 [cases]of the
dangerous hemorrhagic variant [occurred].
It was announced that health brigades would
initiate a house-by-house search which would
complement the tasks of household fumigation and
destruction of mosquito breeding sites. In the
Cuscatancingo municipality, in the outskirts of
the capital, _Aedes aegypti_ larvae were found in
55 houses of 100 inspected.
