[h=3]Abstract[/h] Bias arises in studies of waning vaccine effectiveness when higher-risk individuals are depleted from the population at-risk, at different rates between study groups. We examine how this bias arises and how it can be avoided. Reanalysis of data from California confirms a finding of intra-season waning of influenza vaccine effectiveness.
