Best affiliation for that paper is Queensland Paediatric Infectious Diseases (QPID) Laboratory Queensland Children’s Medical Research Institute (QCMRI), UQ.

Practical to self-inoculate with an HRV? I suspect it would be (not for those with a predisposition to severe disease following HRV infection - such as those with asthma [paed nurse-nuh], COPD etc). There are also data that the LAIV provided "off target" protection against other respiratory viruses as did similar live attenuated viral formulations used in early enterovirus vaccines some decades ago. Interestingly the trivalent flu vaccines may not elicit the same response (Cowley et al a year or two back). The mechanism is, broadly speaking, interferon-based (the name interferon originates form experiments into interference between viruses).

I'm looking at this in the lab in cell cultures first.

Welcome Ian! You must be tired as it is very early in Australia.

Well that preventive pre-infection leaves me out as I am around little children and I have asthma. Darn. Back to hand-washing when the time comes. Well that and a few herbal concoctions.
