Aru: typhoid fever rages in Ariwara, 24 cases including 9 deaths
-------------------------------------------------- ----------
Nine people died of typhoid fever
with perforation of the intestines of the 24 cases
registered since last November
[2009] in the area Ariwara [Province
Ituri], over 300 kilometers north of
Bunia, in Aru territory. This disease is due
including the shortage of drinking water in the
region, as the medical director of the hospital
General reference this locality, reports radiookapi.net.
According the same source, victims who are unaware
symptoms of this disease are often
conducted late in the structures
Local health. But Dr. Faustin
Arianji stated that the provisions
needed are already being taken to educate the
population, including respect for notions of hygiene.
"Generally, if we are maybe 10
or 14 days after the occurrence of the disease.
These are cases we have treated at positions
private health care, that's the problem. [Aside]
of this is the problem of drinking water that
Not drinking. You know that does not Ariwara
drinking water. With the great period of rain
September, October or even November, our
little spring there (??). The torrents of water that
come and invade the source is the same
water that people are being consumed, "said Dr. Arianji.
The small central area Ariwara took
provisions to its level for the message
in churches, through local radio
so that people can flagon of water
consumption, again informed the doctor. The
listed signs of the disease are fever,
weakness, abdominal bloating. If
someone has these signs, we asked
the people to take him to hospital.

[Typhoid fever is very common in
African countries south of Sahara. Unfortunately
Consultations are also late
common because the disease is treated primarily
as a means for malaria diagnosis
Biologics are limited, resulting in a
delay of appropriate management of
disease where complications and very frequent
often severe as intestinal perforation.
Epidemiology
-------------
The _Salmonella_ responsible for fever
typhoid and paratyphoid with the man
single reservoir, contamination is by
ingestion of food or water having been
fecal contamination of human origin. As
all disease of fecal-oral transmission,
these fevers occur more often in
areas where sanitation is precarious, and strike
mainly developing countries in Asia,
Africa or Latin America. Data
World's most recent (2000) report
more than 20 million annual cases of fever
typhoid, and more than 200 000 deaths.
Symptoms and treatment
-----------------------
Typhoid and paratyphoid are
caused by _Salmonella_ narrowly tailored
to man, _S._ Typhi, Paratyphi A _S._,
certain strains _S._ Paratyphi B and _S._
Paratyphi C. After an incubation period of 1
occurs at 2 weeks of fever continues
accompanied by headache, anorexia,
abatement ( "tuphos" torpor in Greek),
abdominal pain with diarrhea or
constipation. In benign forms, the state
remains stationary for a fortnight
then the recovery lasts several weeks.
In more severe complications when
may occur in the intestine of c? heart
or gallbladder, typhoid fever may be
fatal if untreated. The rate of
mortality is 10 per cent compared to less than
1 per cent for other forms of salmonellosis.
Appropriate antibiotic therapy lowers the risk
mortality to less than 1 percent, but
isolates more resistant strains
Antibiotics: Viet Nam, over 90 percent
strains isolated were resistant to multiple
conventionally used antibiotics, cons
less than 1 per cent in Africa. There are
ported more chronic _S._ Typhi: after
cure of typhoid fever, 2 to 5 percent
individuals continue to excrete the bacteria.
Prevention
----------
Prevention is based on monitoring
Epidemiological and fight against the "danger
fecal. "The spread of salmonella can
be checked by: distribution of water
quality, bacteriologically controlled,
wastewater treatment, control areas
harvesting of shellfish, the pasteurization
foods, butter and milk in particular. A
anti-typhoid vaccine well tolerated with no
requiring only one injection may be
administered to travelers in
risk areas. The protective effect lasts for 3 years
and the protection rate in endemic areas is 60 percent.
