Ecuador confirms 57 cases of influenza A H1N1

QUITO, 11. Ecuador recorded a total of 57 confirmed cases of influenza caused by H1N1 virus, including 3 deaths, since its resurgence in the country in November 2010, said the Ministry of Public Health.

Since the beginning of the year, were infected with this flu 23 people in the country, mainly in the Andean province of Pichincha (11), where 3 patients died, detailing the health authorities. The first three cases were reported in late December in the Andean province of Imbabura.

Despite the resurgence of this kind of flu, the authorities ruled that the case of an epidemic like the one experienced during 2009. "In every country in the world increase the cases of influence when there are seasonal changes," said the coordinator of Epidemiology, Nelson Vasconez.

The Health Ministry said Monday the emergence of the Ecuadorian health care system to meet an increase of patients in state schools caused, inter alia, by the arrival of the seasonal flu.

"Every year there are 3,000 deaths in the country due to pneumonia or influenza. is one of the leading causes of preventable mortality in the country, "he said.

The Health Ministry plans to implement the trivalent vaccine to about one million people over 65 years and under five.
