Ecuador Reports First H1N1 Flu Case - Health Ministry
QUITO -(Dow Jones)- A young man who arrived last Sunday in Guayaquil from Miami has been confirmed as Ecuador's first case of H1N1 flu, Health Ministry spokesman Gonzalo Pinto told Dow Jones Newswires on Friday.
"It is a confirmed case," Pinto said.
The government has suspended permission for students to travel abroad at the end of the school year as a preventive measure against the virus.
Ecuador's Health Ministry has started to distribute 40,000 doses of antivirus drug Tamiflu, by Roche (RHHBY), to public hospitals in the country.
On Monday, 40,000 doses of antivirus drug arrived in Ecuador and a second shipment of 110,000 doses is expected to arrive June 12.
