CAIRO: A 40-year-old woman died of H5N1 avian flu in Upper Egypt’s governorate of Sohag Tuesday, undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for preventive medicine Amr Qandil told Youm7.

During the past three month, three new human cases of H5N1 infection were detected, of which one was fatal and the other two are being hospitalized, Qandil said.

The 40 year old person who died is a new case. I am not sure if there are 2 additional cases currently hospitalized or they are the 2 already known cases who were discharged in April which fits the 3 month time frame.

I am going to add the case of the 40 year old to our case list and make a notation below about a possible 2 more cases in Sohag in the last 3 months.


Hopefully WHO/EMRO will clarify the H5N1 situation in Egypt.
