Swine flu returns to Egypt with 136 cases

Announced the Egyptian Ministry of Health, on Tuesday 12/07/2010, the discovery of two sevenths confirmed cases in Egypt infected with 'H-1, 1', and known as the 'swine flu', over the past week.

Dr. Abdel-Rahman Shahin, spokesman for the ministry, in an official statement that the total number of cases detected during the months of October and November two amounted to one hundred and thirty-six cases.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Health that the prevalence of 'virus H1N1' 'is still within the normal rates for seasonal influenza', calling for the continuation of the 'preventive action' sound and the rules of personal hygiene and public for the prevention of influenza.

Swine flu cases reach 136 with 70 reported last week

CAIRO: Swine flu cases have been increasing in Egypt, as 136 cases were reported in October and November ? 70 of which were reported just this past week, according to Abdel Rahman Shahin, spokesperson for the Ministry of Heath.

Despite the increasing rate of infections, Shahin stated that the number of patients is within the seasonal flu rates expected during this time of year.

In ministry statement, Shahin did not refer to the H1N1 virus as ?swine flu.? Instead, he used the term ?emerging flu.?

Ministry of Health authorities on Wednesday reported yet another fatality caused by the H1N1 virus (otherwise known as swine flu), bringing the total number of H1N1 deaths in Egypt to 284. The victim was a taxi driver from Berket al-Sabae in Monufiya.

Authorities say they also discovered cases of avian flu in several governorates.

Ahmed Fouad, a local health official in Monufiya, said health teams discovered 89 new areas of avian flu outbreaks in the northern governorate.

Health authorities have slaughtered thousands of infected birds and vaccinated the rest to prevent a spread of the infection.
