I think they are the same person. Same exact village. It just happened so quickly...that the media is getting a bit confused. Some articles are just reporting her as confirmed.....

I think there is another case number which will show up maybe tomorrow or the day after due to the holiday.

today also should have been a holiday for the government but the reports were published by mohp

yes and it was on a mohp report dated yesterday and confirmed as positive on the second i think.

also from the articles one had contact with birds/poultry and one didn't

Today's death makes 8 for my list. The list above, doesn't have #107; as died.
So #107 and #109 make 8.

ETA: This could be the problem.....

The Health Ministry confirmed on Sun 4 Apr 2010 a new bird flu [avian
influenza (H5N1)] case in Egypt bringing the total number to 109
since the appearance [of the disease] in Egypt in 2006 till now.

The Ministry identified the case as an 18-year-old woman from
Al-Fayyoum Governorate. The Ministry reported that she suffers from
high temperature and difficulty in breathing and she has been treated
in Al-Fayyoum Fever Hospital since Wed 31 Mar 2010.

The Egyptian Ministry of Health announced on Sunday [4 Apr 2010] a
new human death from bird flu [avian influenza (H5N1) virus
infection]. The victim is a young woman of 18 years of age, from
[Al-Fayyoum Governorate].

According to the Ministry statement, the number of cases of the
disease in Egypt has risen to 109 cases, and the number of deaths to
34 [since the onset of the disease in 2006]. The statement indicated
that this is the 7th [fatal] case in 2010.

contact with diseased birds, although that has not been confirmed in

this report was published this morning by the mohp. it covers two days through the 5th of april 2010.

the current reported has no new suspect cases shown for the fifth of april.

the suspect case total did increase to 11,595 on the 4th of april which means six new suspect cases were added for that date.

of H5N1 infection, Beni Suef (FAO Field Officer)
The Ministry of Health has confirmed that the human case No.
91, a 20-year old woman from Beba District, Beni Suef
Governorate died following respiratory failure. The patient
had been diagnosed on 6 January 2010 and admitted to the
hospital on 11 January 2010. She had been treated with
Tamiflu and was referred to the Central Fever Hospital in
Cairo as her condition worsened.

also this link from the 14th january also confirms a fatal human case and is from a foa field officer.

I also found this part interesting on case 94 as his birds tested negative for h5n1

27/01/10 - Confirmed human case of H5N1 infection, Sharkia
(FAO Field Officer)
On 23 January, The Ministry of Health has confirmed H5N1
infection in a , 38 years old man from Kafr Elaatar, Elsenita
Village, Faqous District, Sharkia Governorate. This is the
human case No. 94. On 20 January a private physician
referred the patient to Faqous Fever Hospital where he was
hospitalized and Tamiflu treatment was given. The Veterinary
Directorate of Sharkia Governorate and the National
Laboratory for Veterinary Quality Control on Poultry
Production (NLQP) collected samples from poultry raised at
the house where the infected man lives and the results are
negative for H5N1.

Observation date: a known or approximate date when the first clinical signs were observed or when the disease was suspected to occur.

If this date is correct, it is very troubling. To go from onset to critical condition in 2 days.

Avian influenza - situation in Egypt - update 34
9 April 2010 -- The Ministry of Health of Egypt has announced a new human cases of A(H5N1) avian influenza infection.

The case is a 18 year-old female from Etsa district, Fayoum Governorate. She was admitted to hospital on 31 March where she received oseltamivir treatment. She died on 4 April.

Investigations into the source of infection indicated that the case had exposure to sick and dead poultry.

The case was confirmed by the Egyptian Central Public Health Laboratories, a National Influenza Center of the WHO Global Influenza Surveillance Network (GISN).

Of the 109 laboratory confirmed cases of Avian influenza A(H5N1) reported in Egypt, 34 have been fatal.

A new report was published for two days for the 8th and 9th April 2010

it shows case 108 still undergoing hospital treatment in Cairo.

no new positive cases were added by this report.

it added only two new suspects one for each day none of which are from Gharbia based on this report. the suspect cases total increased by two and stands at 11,603

no other statistics were affected

The mohp released a report which covers two days the report added three suspect cases for the thirteenth of April which brings the current total of suspect cases to 11,611

no new suspect cases were added for the 14th of April

case number 108 is now listed as a case of recovery under the Cairo governorate.
