The mohp published a new report today which confirms the addition of a new positive case numbered as 115 . which is recorded under the governorate number 09 Luxor (Arabic: الأقصر)

The report indicates case number 114 is still under going treatment within the hospital.

The case in Luxor was most likely detected on the 20th or 21st based on the information contained in this report and the previous one dated the 19th of December.

The suspect case total has increased to a cumulative total of 11,920 and increase of 17 suspect cases during the three day period.

115th human case of avian influenza

[According to local sources] the Egyptian Ministry of Health has
announced the discovery of the 115th case of bird flu [avian
influenza A/(H5N1) virus infection] in Egypt.

Dr. Abdel Rahman Shaheen, official spokesman of the Ministry of
Health, reported the discovery of a new human case of bird flu. The
case is an 11-year-old child resident in Luxor governorate. He added
that this case is the 115th in Egypt since the outbreak of the
disease in Egypt [in 2006].

Dr. Shaheen said the girl had entered a hospital in Luxor governorate
suffering from high fever, cough, difficulty in breathing and
pneumonia. She had been exposed to birds suspected to have been
infected with avian influenza. The girl had received immediate
Tamiflu treatment and was placed on a respirator. Her condition is
now critical.

Egypt's health ministry today reported a new H5N1 case, an 11-year-old child from Luxor governorate who is hospitalized in critical condition, according to a ministry statement translated by volunteers with the FluTrackers infectious disease message board.
If her illness, and the illness of a 25-year-old woman from Beheira governorate whose case was announced by the ministry on Dec 15, are confirmed by the WHO, the child will be listed as Egypt's 115th case, of which 37 have been fatal.
