SAN SALVADOR (Reuters) - The Ministry of Health of El Salvador said Thursday that the number of people killed by the influenza A H1N1 in the country rose to five, while it increased to 453 cases of infected people.

The ministry reported in a statement that confirmed two new victims of influenza, who joined three others who died the week anterior.El report indicated that the victims were under age 2, one in the capital and another in the central department of La Paz.

The Minister of Health, Maria Isabel Rodriguez said the Government assessed next Tuesday to raise the alert level from "yellow" to "red" before the surge of cases.

Official figures indicate that to date there are 453 confirmed cases in the country with 91 other suspected cases and 66 in surveillance.

San Salvador, 27 Jul (Notimex) .- More than 1.5 million students stopped attending classes today in an attempt by the health authorities of El Salvador to tackle the epidemic of human influenza that has killed seven people in the country.

Apparently, the numbers of cases of influenza A H1N1 continue to rise. To this day, the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MSPAS) reports nearly six hundred people infected.

According to the latest report, there are 595 positive cases, of whom 54% are female and the rest male.

Meanwhile, the population group most affected is children. At least 244 cases were in infants 10 to 19 years of age.

Marlon Sanchez, who was suffering from influenza A H1N1, died in the late afternoon on Sunday in San Juan de Dios Hospital in Santa Ana, confirmed the intensive Oscar Herrera.

The Minister of Health, Maria Isabel Rodriguez, confirmed the death of one tenth second child by influenza A H1N1 in the country. With him were three deaths recorded in a single day.

The child of 10 months of age died in the hospital in Sonsonate, due to respiratory complications caused by new influenza.

The smallest one died hours after being admitted to the hospital. Prior to this hospitalization, was treated with natural medicine, which worsened his condition.

Salvadoran schools reopened after closing for influenza

San Salvador-About two million students resumed classes in public and private schools in El Salvador, after two weeks of inactivity in the prevention of human influenza.

The health and education authorities are satisfied with the measures taken since July 27 because during that period decreased respiratory diseases and has given way to a better control of the H1N1 virus that has left 12 dead and 622 infections in country.

The official infectologists and Eduardo Suarez, the Ministry of Health, confirmed that consultations for acute respiratory problems fell from 40 to 50 percent nationally.

The minister announced that within the 10 countries selected by the World Health Organization (WHO) to donate the first doses to immunize the population is El Salvador, so that by November of 200 thousand will be taken shots.

Close third school in El Salvador for suspected influenza

San Salvador, 15 Oct (Notimex) .- Salvadoran authorities confirmed today the third end of the third school in the east of the country, where dozens of students have symptoms of human influenza.

The Education Ministry said on Thursday closed the lessons in school 'Guajiquil "in the eastern province of La Union, where two schools were closed before.

The closure of the school will be for 12 days, time needed to find out if the person has contracted the H1N1 virus. Schools in El Zapote and The Hermitage in La Union, about 167 kilometers from the capital are affected.

Investigating nine possible influenza deaths in El Salvador

San Salvador, 16 Oct (Notimex) .- The Ministry of Health of El Salvador investigating the death of nine people suspected cases of human influenza following the outbreak which originated in the eastern province of La Union, on the border with Honduras, local media reported Saturday.

Quoting official sources, the media reported that another 10 Salvadorans were moved from the town of Lislique Hospital Santa Rosa de Lima, in the same region, in order to be selected for testing of H1N1 viruses.

In this week have been closed at least three schools in the region Lislique, department of La Union, on suspicion that some 80 students are affected with the disease.

The Medical Health Unit Lislique, Jesus Alvarado, confirmed the first three positive cases of members of one family, while a baby that died last home on October 6, without having been yet determined the cause of death.

According to relatives, the child was well, he suddenly felt unwell and sought her to a health center, but never reached because the way he died.

Deputy Health Minister, Eduardo Espinoza, said that another child would have died on suspicion of H1N1 in the same municipality Lislique but explained that it could also be dengue.

Evans said there are seven other deaths that may be associated with the disease under investigation, but said there is a resurgence in the country as it is envisaged that this could happen in November.


Consultations on the Health Unit Lislique jumped after the death of the first baby and authorities fear that the outbreak in the area it originated in Honduras, so they called the people of the region to step up measures prevention.

Stands at 22 deaths from influenza in El Salvador

A total of 22 people died and 767 were infected with influenza A (H1N1) in El Salvador since the appearance of evil here in late April, reported today the Ministry of Health.

According to the owner of this dependence, Maria Isabel Rodriguez, the most recent deaths are a baby a month and a half and a 78-year old.

The child received medical treatment, however, was a high-risk patient because he was malnourished and was the son of a teenage mother, Rodriguez said.

Meanwhile, the old man had a drinking problem and was presented to health authorities 15 days after the febrile process.

The Ministry of Health maintains closed 22 schools in the province of La Union last week after detected a new outbreak of influenza in the town of Lilisque border with Honduras, where the virus apparently entered.

Death Toll from Swine Flu Rises to 25 in El Salvador


SAN SALVADOR ? Two more people have died from swine flu, raising the death toll from the AH1N1 flu virus in El Salvador to 25, health officials said.

A total of 803 people are infected with the flu virus in the Central American country, the Health Ministry official in charge of monitoring the disease, Julio Armero, told reporters.

The two most recent deaths occurred in the central province of Cuscatlan and in the eastern province of San Miguel, Armero said.

One of the victims was a 15-year-old boy who suffered from a kidney ailment and the other victim was a 39-year-old obese man, the health official said.

The first death from the AH1N1 flu virus in El Salvador occurred on July 2, when a 9-year-old boy died after experiencing severe respiratory problems. EFE

EFE. San Salvador. The Ministry of Health of El Salvador confirmed a new death from influenza A in the country, which amounted to 31 fatalities and 834 those infected.

"Unfortunately tallied one more person died," said Deputy Health Minister, Violeta Menjivar, told reporters.

He stated that the victim, 48 years old and who lived in Chapeltique (138 miles east of San Salvador), and diabetic.

"That's why we insist that people who have an underlying disease are cared for," she added.

According to a bulletin of the Ministry of Health, until Dec. 5 were reported 834 cases of humans catching the H1N1 virus and five suspects.

The 50.4 percent of cases of infection are in people between 10 and 29 years, said the bulletin, noting that follows the age group under 10 years (25.8%), while the lower number is recorded among those over 60 years (2.5%).
