More than 30 cases of mumps reported in Plymouth region

A number of cases of mumps have been reported across the Plymouth region in recent weeks with more than 30 reports to Public Health England since the end of September.
There have also been 23 reports of scarlet fever and 22 of whooping cough.
Mumps is a highly-contagious illness spread by coughs and sneezes causing painful swelling in the neck and glands.
There were seven reported cases in the South West in the week ending September 27, eight the next week and 16 in the week up to October 11 - including two in Plymouth, two in Cornwall and one in Devon.
Public Health England has also recorded three recent cases of measles in the region, two of rubella, 16 of TB and 60 reported cases of food poisoning...
