Veterinary officials quarantined a farm in the village of Dolne Semerovce, some 160 km (100 miles) south-east of the capital Bratislava, and ordered the slaughter of more than 7,000 pigs, infected with the highly-aggressive virus.
"There will be a meeting in Brussels with the European Commission's officials on Monday," Milan Matus, Head of the SVPS Director's Office told Reuters. "We will submit a report on this case and hope the EC will ease its restrictions to only two districts," he added.
Slovakia, which last registered swine fever in 2005, urged farmers to stop any contact between domestic and wild animals.
