Europe misses measles target
New target for measles elimination by 2015 can be met with defined vaccination strategy, experts say
Five years ago, member states of the World Health Organization (WHO)''s European Region resolved to eliminate measles and rubella by 2010. In September this year, it had become clear that this target was not going to be met, and so the Regional Committee resolved1 to adopt a new deadline of 2015 to complete the task. As 2010 comes to an end, outbreaks are still occurring across Europe, and only eight EU countries have reported zero cases so far this year.
