Eighteen children between 10 months and 15 years of age had to be hospitalised with severe nose bleeding and diarrhoea after being administered swine flu vaccine by a group of women posing as government recognised medical volunteers.
The incident occurred on Saturday at a clinic in Bhandup called Bhatti Pada, where the children were given a nasal vaccine purportedly for H1N1 and charged Rs 100 for each spray by women, claiming to be NGO workers associated with the World Health Organisation.
Barely 30 minutes later, some of the kids started bleeding from their nose and had to be rushed to the neighbourhood hospital. Parents of the victims alerted the police, but by then the trio had fled the scene.
