Swine flu: Ministry of Health confirms the downward trend in serious cases for the fifth consecutive week

SAO PAULO - The Health Ministry said on Wednesday that Brazil has recorded 899 deaths from flu, since the beginning of the pandemic. The good news, according to the Ministry, is that severe cases of the new flu fell for the fifth consecutive week, confirming a downward trend. The week of 6 to 12 September, were recorded 35 serious cases, against 490 the previous week and 837 the previous week. Between April 25 and September 12, 9249 were reported cases of swine flu in the country.

The state of Sao Paulo leads the number of deaths with 327 cases, followed by 222 deaths in Paran?, Rio Grande do Sul, 148 and Rio de Janeiro 84. Then, the Santa Catarina, 48, Minas Gerais, 24, Goias, 20, Mato Grosso do Sul, 7, Amazonas, Roraima, Para, Paraiba, Pernambuco, Mato Grosso, Distrito Federal all with two deaths; and Rond?nia, Acre, Rio Grande do Norte, Pernambuco and Bahia with a death each. The state of Paran? continues to have the highest death rate per hundred thousand inhabitants: 2.08. Rio Grande do Sul comes next with a mortality rate of 1.36 per hundred thousand inhabitants.

Swine flu kills pregnant heart

A 26-year-old heart, and she was pregnant, died yesterday in Bauru victim of influenza A (H1N1) swine flu. The baby, a boy who was in 34. Weeks of gestation, was removed by emergency caesarean section, when the body of the mother's health became very serious. Missing six weeks to be fully ready to be born, the child was placed in an incubator Maternity Santa Isabel, where he remained hospitalized in steady state until yesterday afternoon, breathing with the aid of oxygen equipment. The mother, who was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Hospital de Base, died shortly after birth.

She is the seventh person who died in the light of swine flu in Bauru since the beginning of the worldwide epidemic of the disease in May. The cause of death of the mother was confirmed yesterday by the Municipal Health Secretariat, through the Division of Epidemiological Surveillance, which did not name the victim. JC found that she lived in the Pousada of Hope, was married and was veiled in the house and buried day before yesterday at Christ the King Cemetery in Roosevelt Park.

Mar?lia confirms fifth death from swine flu (SP state)
Mar?lia - The Epidemiological Surveillance of Mar?lia (100 miles Bauru) yesterday confirmed a fifth death in the city caused by influenza A (H1N1), known as swine flu. The day before yesterday, the result of the examination conducted by the Institute Adolfo Lutz had confirmed the death on September 12 at University Hospital of a 44 year old resident of jardim Am?rica, west of the city. The victim was hospitalized from the day 3 and was suffering from a blood disease characterized by decreased number of platelets in the blood.

The fifth victim of the influenza A is a 34 year old woman had been hospitalized since Aug. 27, the Holy House of Mercy, with severe pneumonia. The test results confirmed the H1N1 virus infection was completed on August 31. Until yesterday, 40 positive cases of influenza A were reported in Marilia. 55 people are still waiting for test results.

In Botucatu (100 miles Bauru), the Epidemiological Surveillance confirmed the death of a woman of 40 years, the last 6 days. The victim, who had heart problems, was admitted to hospital Unesp already dead, with a diagnosis of pneumonia. (Lilian Grasiela)

MT confirms 4 more deaths from flu fever; state has 6

The Secretariat of Health of Mato Grosso confirmed on Thursday four more deaths caused by flu. With the new cases, the state sum six deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

According to the state, four other deaths pending laboratory results. The Superintendency of Health Surveillance of the State confirmed that the virus circulates freely in Cuiabá and people who contracted the disease were infected in the city.

According to data released Wednesday by the Ministry of Health, Brazil has confirmed 899 cases of fatal flu. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Brazil is the largest number of victims worldwide.

The Department of Health confirmed today the first death in Nortão by H1N1. A patient who was admitted to Sorriso is the victim. It was reported a man, woman or the city where he lived. The registry points "which is still under investigation a suspected case of a resident of Santa Carmem" (35 km from Sinop). Apparently, it is the man who was admitted to the Regional Hospital of Sorriso and ended up dying about 40 days.

Only News has learned that the official death toll in the state increased to 6 (until last week was 4): two in Cuiaba, two in a Large Lowland in Primavera do Leste and the other in Sorriso. There are 7 cases being investigated.

Of the cases of people infected so far: 21 are from Cuiabá, 7 in Cuiaba, 5 in Sorriso, 4 of Lucas do Rio Verde, 4 in Sinop, 3 in Barra do Garças (notification in Goiania) and 1 in São Pedro da Cipa

Increased from two to six the number of deaths due to Influenza A (H1N1) - commonly known as swine flu - in the Federal District. The new stock was issued today by the Health Department of DF. The number of people who contracted the disease also increased, totaling 508 cases. Of all patients infected by new virus, 502 have already been healed.


According to the Secretary-joining of Health, Florencio Cavalcante, will not be disclosed the details of the victims of the new flu, in order to preserve the identity of patients. Cavalcante merely say that the deaths occurred in the last four weeks. He said the families of children under 12 years who died on August 24, because of the disease, is suing the department because the disclosure of death.


The secretary also announced that although it has been observed decline in the occurrence of new cases of influenza, it is still early to say that there is a reduction of contagion. "You have to wait three to four weeks to see if there really is this fall," the Deputy Registrar. The department notes that the number of cases has been reduced, the rest of the country, however, the preventive measures against disease are being maintained.


Vaccination - Like the rest of Brazil, the Health Department held next Saturday (19) the second vaccination campaign against polio this year. According to the Secretary of Health Surveillance, Disney Antezana, the goal is to vaccinate 95% of children under 5 years, representing 211,881 children. In the last campaign, the goal was not met - only 88% received a dose of the vaccine. To achieve the goal, will be assembled 368 vaccination posts.

The Department of Health announced on Thursday (17) the epidemiological bulletin No. 60. Paran? has 10,188 confirmed cases of the new flu, and 236 had complications and died. Other 3044 cases were negative.

The deaths occurred between 14 July and 14 September and are distributed by sex and age group: 57% were women and 43% men. The age, 61.9,% of deaths occurred in people who were between 20 and 49 years, 20.3% between 50 and 59 years and 8.9% between 5 and 19 years.

The regions with the highest number of confirmed cases are Curitiba and region (3944), Calabar (1098), Cornelio Procopio (779), Francisco Beltr?o (755) and Pato Branco (483). Since the regions with the highest number of deaths are Curitiba and region (78), Cascavel (20), Foz do Igua?u (18), Maring? (17) and Toledo (12).

State of Rio enrolls more than 3 new deaths from bird flu

There are now 81 deaths from the disease.
Among the victims are the mother and child.

The state Department of Health of Rio confirmed on Thursday (17), three more deaths caused by new flu. In total, 81 people died from the disease across the state.

According to the secretariat, among the new victims is a female child of 7 months of age, the municipality of Rio She died on July 7. The other victim was a pregnant 15-year-old resident of Burns, in Baixada Fluminense, who died on August 2.

The third case is a male patient, aged 40, who lives in Petr?polis, in the metropolitan area. According to the secretary, he had immunosuppression and AIDS. The victim died on August 30.

SAO PAULO - The Secretariat of Health of S?o Jos? dos Campos, 97 km from Sao Paulo, has one more victim of swine flu. This is a woman of 30 years, who died on Monday. She was admitted to the emergency room of a private network in labor on September 1. On day 3 she had a caesarean and the baby was transferred to ICU (Intensive Care Unit) for neonatal respiratory distress.

The patient was discharged on the 5th of September, but returned on holiday from September 7 to a worsening of respiratory symptoms. Even in the ICU, she had worsening in the context of health and was eventually intubated and treated with antibiotics and Tamiflu. The survey confirmed that the swine flu virus was performed at the Adolfo Lutz in S?o Paulo on 8. The infant also received Tamiflu, and samples of secretions to test for H1N1, but the result was negative.

With the confirmation, as are 21 deaths from disease in the region. Three of them were in the Braganca region, five in Sao Jose dos Campos, two on the north coast, two in Taubat?, one in Guaratinguet?, two in Lorraine, one of Rj, one in Jacare?, one in Amman, and one in Potim confirmed by two other State Department of Health, but no location revealed.

Brazil has registered 899 deaths from swine flu, maintaining its status as the country worst-hit by the pandemic, according to the health ministry in South America's largest nation.

In announcing the data, the ministry also said that the number of serious cases in the country "fell for the fifth straight week," indicating a reduction of the spread of the A(H1N1) virus.

Brazil became the country with the highest death toll in late August when it surpassed the United States, which now has 593 swine-flu-related fatalities. Brazil's neighbor Argentina has 512 deaths. ...continued at site.

There is a lag between the official federal report and reporting by state health departments. The FT total is based on both. I take the higher of the two numbers presented by both. Sao Paolo state from my observation seems to lag behind in reporting so I usually wait for the federal number...which is why the total is 1000+.

Florian?polis - The Department of Health of Santa Catarina confirmed on Friday a further 17 deaths caused by swine influenza in the state. According to the department, 34 deaths were under investigation, and the 17 tests were negative for influenza A and the other 17 tests were positive.

Of the 17 people who died, 10 were more likely complication of the clinical, as acute respiratory illness. This causes the Santa Catarina account for 69 deaths by the new flu. Another 55 deaths in research were dismissed as trying to been caused by the disease.

The confirmed deaths were a man of 26 years in Arabut?, a 15-year Campo Alegre, a 39 year old man in Conc?rdia, a woman of 43 years at Concordia, a 50-year Corup?; a woman 35 years in Ca?ador, a woman of 50 years in Guaramirim, a woman of 52 years in Indaial, a woman of 82 years in Joinville, a woman of 37 years in Laguna, a man of 22 years in Pinhalzinho, a woman of 38 years in Sul Brasil, a man of 23 years in San Jose, a woman of 49 years in San Jose, a woman of 31 years in Tubar?o, a woman of 33 years in Videira, and a woman of 35 in Videira.

Have been 559 confirmed cases of swine flu in Santa Catarina and disposed of 669 cases through laboratory tests.

The State Committee to Combat the Pandemic Influenza A (H1N1) in Piau? confirmed on Monday, 21, the first fatality of the new flu in the state. It is the professor Sergio Gustavo who died on Sunday, September 13, in Teresina. He was teaching high school biology in Teresina. The cause of death was confirmed after examination result in the Hospital Adolfo Lutz in Sao Paulo.

Dr. Pedro Leopoldino said the teacher's family - wife and son - also showed signs of flu, but were not confirmed as type A.

The Department of Health reports the numbers jump Influenza A (H1N1) in the city. There was another death in the previous week. The death happened on the ninth of September, but the confirmation of the review was on Tuesday, 15th. Was a woman of 39 years old, with hypertension and diabetes mellitus, who was admitted in six September.

Mato Grosso registered the last week over a death caused by influenza A (H1N1), the "swine flu", this time in the city of Diamond. SAO PAULO - The Secretariat of Health of Campinas, 94 kilometers from Sao Paulo, has more than one death from swine flu. The man, 30, died on September 12. He received medical care in a hospital in the private health and his case was confirmed as infected by Influenza A H1N1 in September 21.

The Department of Health confirmed a new outbreak of Influenza A (H1N1) in a private school in the city. So far, 7 have been confirmed outbreaks of the disease in the municipality.

According to the Bureau, the number of cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome in Campinas, or simply severe cases caused by influenza A (H1N1) fell for the fourth straight week, confirming a trend that had already been observed in previous weeks. While the first weeks of August were being confirmed, on average, 5 cases per day during the first weeks of September that number dropped to 1 per day.
