Faiyum Governorate (Arabic: محافظة الفيوم is one of the governorates of Egypt in the middle of the country. Its capital is the city of Faiyum, located about 81 mi (130 km) southwest of Cairo. It has a population of 307,731 (2005),[1]
Faiyum (Arabic: الفيوم; Coptic: 'Ⲫⲓⲟⲙ) is a city in Middle Egypt and the capital of the Faiyum Governorate it's Coordinates: 29?18′N 30?50′E . It is 130 Km southwest of Cairo and occupies part of the ancient site of Crocodilopolis. Its name in English is also spelled as Fayum, Fayoum, Al Fayyum or El Faiyūm. It was formerly named Madīnet el Faiyūm (Arabic for the city of Faiyum).
Location and Settings
The governorate of Faiyum comprises a number of cities and towns. Besides its capital city of Faiyum, there are Senuris and Tomia to the north, and Senaru and Etsaa on the road to the lake.

The large fertile Faiyum Oasis, which comprises farmland, Lake Moeris, and some cities. South of the Faiyum Oasis, a smaller depression contains the town of El Gharaq el Sulţāni. It is also irrigated from the Nile.
A dry barren depression named Wadi Elrayan, which covers 280 mi? (725 km?), west of the El Gharaq el Sulţāni depression. Desert and dry mountains, which mostly surround the depressions. In Etsa region there are many ancient places like Madi city,
area is 1,827km2 with a population base of 2,512,792 during 2005
it also worth noting that fayum area is the only place in egypt that malaria can still be found

احتجز مستشفى حميات الفيوم أمس الأحد، طفلتين من قرى المندرة والحادقة للاشتباه فى إصابتهما بمرض أنفلونزا الطيور، وتم أخذ العينات اللازمة منهما لإرسالها للمعامل المركزية بوزارة الصحة لتحليلها والتأكد من إصابتهما بالمرض من عدمه.
كانت منة رجب رمضان عمرها سنتان وثلاثة أشهر من قرية المندرة وبسنت ياسر شعبان (9 شهور) من الحادقة مركز الفيوم قد دخلاتا مستشفى الحميات تعانيان من ارتفاع فى درجة الحرارة، وتظهر عليهما أعراض مرض أنفلونزا الطيور اشتبه الأطباء فى إصابتهما.

Hospital admitted Fayyoum held on Sunday, two girls from the villages and Almenderp Alhadegp on suspicion of bird flu virus, the samples were taken for them to be sent to labs central Ministry of Health for analysis and to make sure they got sick or not.
Ramadan Ragab Menna was a two-year-old and three months from the village and Almenderp Pasant Yasser Shaaban (9 months) of Fayyoum Alhadegp Center Dkhalata hospital diets may suffer from high temperature, they show symptoms of bird flu, doctors suspected bird.
