My god
and I thought people overreacted to Sars
that killed less than peanuts
now we have a disease which has killed about 100 people worldwide
more people die from choking on a fish bone each year
but we don't see them being banned

The dodging of the SARS bullet was largely luck. The chances of dodging a swine H1N1 bullet are MUCH lower.

I agree with Niman but not in thw ay he thinks
Anyone who accpets a quickly put together vaccine is at risk
1976 vaccines were more dangerous than the disease
plus even tamiflu only acts to relive symptoms of the disease
rather than cure it plus has a lot of nasty side effects
this is all hyperbole put out by the ..... controlled media
ever notice the unlikely timing of this?
economic crisis and government and banking fraud on a massive scale
people about to demonstrate and revolt and take to the streets
what a good way to keep people off the street and give and excuse for martial law to stop demonstrations plus what a distraction to whats really going on
everyone needs to wake up here
flu is a nasty illness but I do not envisage it killing normal healthy individuals
I'm sure and there has been proof of this that the underlying reason for so many dying in 1918 was that it occurred during war time when young peoples immune systems were not very good
malnutrtition etc and has been suggested it was a strep bacteria that did them in not the flu
being stuck in a damp trench with the flu would never ben healthy
if this really was a killer flu then more people of a younger age would have died by now in the US. So far it has only killed the already weak as does normal flu
the only pandemic is one of mass hysteria and plane lack of common sense
the real danger is what our politicians and bankers are doing to the economy
pandering to a globalist health agenda and the profits of drug companies
only helps this.

Just curious yaba, if you aren't the least bit concerned, why are you reading and commenting?

Hopefully, this too will pass without much damage.
Many of us feel it warrants monitoring, as do the agencies.

Contrary to the "feel" of your comments, I don't see a lot of overblown drama or fear demonstrated by the members here.
Perhaps that's just my perception and yours is different.

This is the first stage of Kubler Ross 5 stages. It's been discussed.

We're in Denial. I see it everywhere. Nobody can believe it. It's like watching the water rush out when the tsunami's offshore, out of sight. It appears amazing and fascinating to some, and an inconvenience to others.

I did the numbers. There's one missing guesstimate, for me.
1% of the severe cases are dying.
What percentage of those getting sick are severe cases?
That's severe vs asymptomatic, or mild symptomatic.

Our number is 3 billion, max, who are in the world in which telecommunications exists or is used, in which there's electricity or running water.

So far, we're seeing the impact of flu on first world countries. There's Tamiflu and Relenza, and there are medical interventions. That's about to change as a percentage.

The true mortality rate is much higher... "true" as in unaffected by modern medical intervention. Can we guess it's 3 or 4%, with the flu being "mild"?

If so, doing the numbers is easy. CDC's and WHO's major contribution is their conclusion that 1/3 of the population will get infected. The rest is plug figure math.

There's a lot of hand waiving (thx Niman for the turn of phrase) that it's only in the immunocompromised that there's a higher probability of infection with serious consequences, like if one has gout.

As I said, it's Denial Time.

I just have a comment about the 1918 pandemic. Many, many of those soldiers who died were not in the trenches yet: they were in overcrowded military hospitals in the US, and in big cities here. I think that we all need to remember what I've read elsewhere on FT: disease doesn't care whether you are rich or poor, what country you claim allegiance to, whether you are young or old. The virus is opportunistic and will attempt to "live" anywhere it gets a foothold. If the best defense is a good offense, then preparing is a great idea.
