Tests clear Fiji of dengue type 2

FIJI is clear of dengue type 2.

Health Ministry spokesman Peni Namotu said test results sent to Queensland in mid-December revealed Fiji had types 1 and 4.

He confirmed there have been no new cases of dengue reported since then.

Last month, the ministry expressed concern after an outbreak of type 2 in the Marshalls and Federated States of Micronesia...

Sudden death shocks family

A FAMILY sheltering at Lautoka's Girmit Centre is still trying to come to terms with the sudden death of 28-year-old mother Maraia Lewatu.

She died at the hospital last Sunday ù leaving behind a nine-year-old daughter. Her death certificate says she died of dengue fever ù one of many flood-borne diseases affecting at least 36 people today...

Public urged to utilize health services

With a confirmed fatality of dengue in the west and with 18 more cases reported by the Commissioner Wester, the Minister for Health Dr Neil Sharma stressed the importance of utilizing all the services available to them in safeguarding their health.

Doctor Sharma said the facilities are readily available to people who are feeling sick...
