The health ministry has confirmed to FBC NEWS that one hundred and forty one cases of dengue fever have been reported throughout the country.

While it hasn?t been labeled an outbreak, the health ministry is advising the public to take all necessary precautions...

DENGUE fever continues to be a national issue and the Health Ministry is taking the necessary steps to increase its surveillance and monitoring systems of the disease.

A total of 141 cases have been recorded by the ministry within the past three months, prompting a two-day workshop for health inspectors in Nadi yesterday...

THERE is a strong chance that the dengue fever type three outbreak in the Solomon Islands could spread to Fiji.

This was confirmed by Ministry of Health national adviser communicable diseases, Doctor Eric Rafai. He said past dengue fever outbreaks in Fiji had all stemmed from outbreaks in other Pacific Island countries...

The health ministry has confirmed two hundred and thirty eight (238) cases of dengue in the country.

This is an increase of 97 cases from the 141 reported two weeks ago...

The Health Ministry has confirmed the number of dengue cases in the country has increased.

Health ministry spokesperson Shalveen Deo says the number of confirmed cases is comparably less than the 346 cases reported for the same period last year...

FIJI'S national dengue fever trend for this year has shown alarming increase with confirmed cases now totalling 265.

According to the Health Ministry's Public Health Reference Laboratory, the total number of confirmed cases also includes 23 new cases received in the last four weeks.

Ministry spokesman Shalvin Deo said all confirmed cases had been reported from January to May 8 this year.

Mr Deo said the national dengue trend for this year saw an alarming increase in the number of cases in January followed by a gradual decline in occurrences over months that followed, so far...

The Health Ministry is closely monitoring a new strain of dengue fever that has been identified as ?Dengue 3?.

Acting National Advisor Communicable Diseases ? Dr Mike Kama says suspicions of the new strain arose after an unusually high number of cases of dengue were recorded in the last month...

8 to 9 cases of dengue reported daily

Eight to nine cases of dengue fever are being reported in the Central Division daily.

This is according to Center for Communicable Disease Control Officer Dr Mike Kama who said initially 13 cases were being reported on a weekly basis.

He said there is a concerning surge of dengue cases in the Central Division...

HEALTH MINISTRY: DENGUE UPDATE

The Ministry of Health continues to urge members of the public to take heed of advices issued in relation to the high reported cases of dengue fever.

?As of 1st November to 30th December 2013, 283 dengue positive cases have been recorded for the central division while the Western Division has recorded 36 dengue positive cases and the northern division has recorded 11 dengue positive cases?, said the Ministry?s Media Liaison Officer Ms Evlyn Mani.

In the central division the Suva-Nausori corridor recorded the majority of cases.

The Health Ministry had mobilized health teams within the central division to ensure effective and efficient dengue responses which includes clinical intervention as well as public health measures.

?The public is reminded that insecticide spraying only kills flying mosquitoes and does not remove the breeding places?, Ms Mani said.

All open stagnant water should be drained as mosquitoes breed in these places and it is also advisable to use mosquito repellent and mosquito nets.

Meanwhile, insecticide spraying has been completed at Vatuwaqa, Samabula, Nabua, Laucala Beach, Domain, Grantham Road, Tacirua East, Khalsa Road, Sakoca, Wailoku, Tamavua, Princess Road and Mead Road.

The Health Ministry reiterates that the onus is on individuals to ensure that their surroundings are clean and free from mosquito breeding sites.
