THE Health Ministry says there could be up to 10 times more cases of dengue than the 17 already confirmed in the Macuata outbreak on Vanua Levu.

National Adviser Communicable Diseases Dr Mike Kama said yesterday the 17 lab confirmed cases were recorded in the past fortnight but there could be many more not yet presented to authorities.

"Seventeen confirmed cases in the laboratory means they have been admitted. These are serious cases. So we'd expect maybe three to four times more cases out there in the public or even 10 times more," Dr Kama said.

He also clarified the ministry had not identified the dengue strain causing the outbreak but they would know once samples were sent to reference labs for testing...

FIVE hundred and forty three laboratory confirmed cases of dengue fever has been recorded by the Health Ministry.

This is an increase from the 501 cases reported earlier this month.

As of last Friday, the Western Division recorded 57 confirmed cases. The Northern and Central divisions recorded 437 and 49 cases respectively...

THE number of dengue cases recorded weekly since the outbreak in Macuata last year has decreased significantly, says the Health Ministry.

In a statement, it revealed that about eight to 19 cases were recorded weekly as opposed to 20 to 62 in previous months.

So far, the Health Ministry has 781 laboratory confirmed cases...
