THE Western Division has recorded the highest number of dengue cases this year says Health Ministry spokesman Peni Namotu.
There have so far been 30 recorded cases from the Balevuto Health Centre in Ba.
"This high number can be attributed to the rainy weather that was experienced recently. However, we are thankful there have not been any fatalities. This is not an outbreak as it is quite normal considering the weather we have been experiencing," he said.
There are 59 confirmed cases around the country for this year with the Macuata Province reporting a recent increase with 18 new cases.

Pacific island countries including Fiji have been asked to step up their level of preparedness, response and medical supplies in view of the potential outbreak of type 2 dengue fever.
A special alert has been issued by the Secreatiat of the Pacific Communities following outbreaks in the Marshall Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia.
A recent outbreak of dengue fever in Fiji has seen 12 cases recorded in the Northern and Western divisions.
The samples have been sent to Queensland, Australia to determine which type of dengue the cases fall under...

THERE is concern at the Fiji Corrections Service compound at Vaturekuka in Labasa after blood tests confirmed one of 12 inmates hospitalised last week had dengue fever.
