Finland Calls Off H1N1 Lab Tests

July 16, 2009

Finland is to stop performing laboratory tests on all suspected H1N1 cases as labs are currently overloaded with incoming samples, according to Helsingin Sanomat.

The daily writes that hospital districts will instead focus on treating people who have fallen ill with the virus.

At the moment Finnish labs have the capacity to perform 30 to 40 of the specialised tests per day, however, hundreds of samples arrive at labs every day.

The official swine flu tally is now 111, but the actual figure may be ten times higher, writes the newspaper.
